Media Training is Important

As I’ve mentioned, some people have a natural ability to shine in front of a camera. But for most people it takes a little work to feel comfortable doing an interview or demonstration on TV.
If you are an expert in your field and want to share your knowledge, you need to be prepared! You don’t want to jump into an interview without a plan because if you struggle, you won’t be asked back and your reputation as an expert may be tarnished.

So here are three reasons why media training is important:

1. Message: No matter your business, book or organization, you need to know your message! What do you want people to know and take away from you and your work? What is your mission? You need to have a clear idea of what it is so you can confidently and effectively communicate it to others. Media training will help you sort out and hone your ideas about what is important to your customers or community. A trainer will give you the strong skills you need to determine your message and garner the appropriate attention with aplomb.

2. Talking points: Okay, you have your message all figured out. Now you need to break it down into digestible bites for your audience. What are the key ideas you want to share about your business or organization? A trainer will help you decide what words to use and how to frame the conversation so it’s not lost or misunderstood in the constant media storm.

3. Performance: How you deliver your message and talking points is almost more important than the actual message. You have to know what you’re going to say and how you’re going to say it. And how you’ll look and sound saying it. All crucial points to a successful performance. A trainer will look at everything – your wardrobe, hair and makeup, body language, word usage, enunciation – anything that can put a bad spin on you or your message and help you fix it so you shine!
